Funding pause on potential pandemic pathogens lifted

On 19 December 2017, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the lifting of a three-year ban on funding research on potential pandemic pathogens, also known as dual use research of concern, or gain of function research. Proposals that are in principle eligible for NIH-funding must be screened based on the Framework for Guiding Funding Decisions about Proposed Research Involving Enhanced Potential Pandemic Pathogens, issued by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
