Future plans

The front-view mirror

The eight techno-ethical future stories in the Front-View Mirror form the basis for eight role plays for 6-10 participants. It can also be scaled up to larger groups. The role play about alternative climate-proof cities is based on the first story: climate exchange. This role play was demonstrated during Venture Cafe Rotterdam on October 31, 2019. The second demonstration, with 30 participants, took place during the book presentation of De Voorkijkspiegel on October 5, 2020 in Stadsklooster Utrecht. Live sustainably on a small budget

As a follow-up to the Sustainable Utrecht in 2030 workshop on October 9, 2021, I am looking for partners for the project Duurzaam Utrecht 2030. Since 2022, we have been asking Utrecht residents with limited means how they want to live sustainably, after which we co-create solutions with students, volunteers and professionals from different organizations together with the target group.

Explore ethical impacts

In the European project RiskGONE we have developed guidelines and online tools for ethical impact assessment of nanotechnology. We tested the tools on various case studies, including medical applications, nanomaterials in car tyres, in water purification in developing countries, and whether or not to share data on the safety of nanomaterials.

I am looking for opportunities to further develop the method. Interested? Email ineke@ethicschool.nl.

SDG Nederland

Since mid-2018, EthicSchool has been a member of SDG Netherlands and a signatory of the SDG Charter.

In this agreement, governments, companies, social organizations and other institutions promise to contribute to the sustainable development goals.

With my book Future Technologies We Want I already contribute to the objectives of the SDG Charter.

I am always up for new sustainable projects.

Running projects

International Networking Initiative Safe & Sustainable Nanotechnology

As a follow-up to RiskGONE (scientifically responsible risk governance of nanotechnology - 1-1-2019 – 31-08-2023), I am pillar leader for Ethics and responsible innovation in the International Network Initiative Safe & Sustainable Nano. This is part of the Nanosafety Cluster.

I am also an associated partner in MELOMANES, and ethical advisor in MERIT, PARC and several European projects.

Energy and water

ANSOLE en BALEWARE

I am the Dutch contact person of the African Network for Solar Energy www.ansole.org and the related network Bridging Africa, Latin America and Europe in Water and Renewable Energy www.baleware.org.

In 2022, the UN published the ANSOLE Energy Compact, with which we want to contribute to SDG 7 by 2030: affordable and sustainable energy for everyone in Sub-Saharan Africa. To this end, we are looking for partners who want to help build research capacity for sustainable energy in Africa. We are also looking for sponsors who want to give African students in sustainable energy or water purification the opportunity to gain practical experience during their studies, through a practical at another (foreign) university.

We are open to other forms of cooperation.
