EU reflects on innovation principle

Ineke Malsch • nov. 29, 2019

On 3 December, EU-President Finland organises a High-level Expert Conference on the developing an innovation-friendly legislative culture in the EU. In a recent report, Andrea Renda and Felice Simonelli of the think-tank CEPS reviewed how the innovation principle is currently implemented in EU policy making, and suggested ways forward which would be acceptable to critical CSOs and policy makers as well as favourable industrialists and policy makers. While the innovation principle is often considered to oppose the precautionary principle, Renda and Simonelli see possibilities for synergy. Info: conferenceand report.
